Kindred: The Embraced
American television producers John Leekley Productions and Spelling Television are responsible for creating the series Kindred: The Embraced for the television market. The television show, which was only tangentially inspired by the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, debuted on Fox on April2,1996, and lasted for a total of eight episodes until being axed on May9, 1996. The series centered on San Francisco Police Detective Frank Kohanek, who throughout the course of an investigation into an alleged mobster named Julian Luna discovered that his city is home to several vampires. Julian is the "prince" of the city and the ruler of the five factions of vampires in the city that are referred to collectively as "The Kindred." Julian ensures that the regulations that regulate vampires are followed to the letter so that they can maintain their identity and continue to "masquerade" as humans. This allows the vampires to continue their existence. As Julian battles with his romantic affections for human reporter Caitlin Byrne, he and Frank begin to build an uneasy alliance as they work together to try to avoid a war between vampires. At the same time, Frank and Julian become closer. Both the VHS and DVD versions of the series' eight individual episodes have been made available to consumers.
