Dark Shadows

It first broadcast on ABC on weekdays from June27,1966, to April2,1971, and is an American gothic soap opera. Dan Curtis developed the series. Art Wallace's tale bible makes no reference to supernatural themes. About six months into the show's run, it did something uncommon in daytime television: it featured ghosts. Once vampire Barnabas Collins was introduced a year into the show's run, the show's ratings skyrocketed. The supernatural drama Dark Shadows also involved time travel, a parallel dimension, witches, warlocks, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, and more. There was a small cast, but they all chipped in to perform a variety of parts, and as people came and departed, some roles were even doubled up. Aside from Art Wallace, notable authors including Malcolm Marmorstein, Sam Hall, Gordon Russell, and Violet Welles also contributed significantly. Dark Shadows stood out from other horror shows thanks to its melodramatic acting, atmospheric sets, unique stories, multiple dramatic plot twists, exceptionally creative music soundtrack, and expansive, epic galaxy of characters and heroic deeds. It has become somewhat of a classic and has maintained a devoted fan base. Despite the short run time of the original series (only five years), the sheer volume of episodes it managed to produce thanks to its placement as a daily daytime drama is greater than that of any other English-language science fiction/fantasy television series, including Doctor Who and the entire Star Trek television franchise. This is second only to the 2,231 episodes of the paranormal soap opera Passions.
