Celebrity Deathmatch

A claymation television show called Celebrity Deathmatch pits famous people against one another in a wrestling ring. The show almost invariably results in the grisly death of the person who comes out on the losing end. It was well-known for the enormous amount of blood that was utilized in each battle and the exaggerated physical injuries that were simulated. Eric Fogel is responsible for the creation of the series, and the pilot episodes first aired on MTV on January 1 and25, 1998. The first run of the series lasted for a total of 75 episodes and began airing on May14, 1998 and ended on October20, 2002. There was one special that did not count toward the overall episode count. It was titled "Celebrity Deathmatch Hits Germany" and it was broadcast on June21, 2001. As a special guest commentator, professional wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin provided the voice for his animated incarnation. MTV made an announcement in the beginning of 2003 that they were producing a film based on the series, but by the end of the same year, they had decided to scrap the project. MTV2 made the announcement in 2005 that the show would be brought back as part of their "Sic 'Em Friday" programming block. The premiere was originally scheduled to take place in November2005, but it was moved to June10, 2006 so that it could be included in a new block of programming called "Sic'emation" along with two other animated episodes, Where My Dogs At and The Adventures of Chico and Guapo. The show's fifth season was produced by Cuppa Coffee Studios, and the premiere received more than 2.5 million people, making it the best rated season debut in the history of MTV2's programming block.
