Sayonara

Air Force Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) is reassigned to a Japanese air base, and is confronted with US racial bias against the Japanese folks. Because some of the soldiers become involved with Japanese women, in defiance of all US military 23, the matter is compounded. Normally an officer who's by-the-book, Gruver must take a situation when a friend of his, an honorable guy Joe Kelly (Red Buttons) falls in love with a Japanese woman Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki) and marries her. Gruver threats his position by simply serving as best man at the marriage ceremony.
