Moffie

Moffie (a disparaging Afrikaans name for a gay guy) is based on André Carl van der Merwe's book and recounts the narrative of Nicholas van der Swart, who realizes he is unusual from a young age. Despite his best efforts, he is unable to live up to the masculine image expected of him by his family and heritage. He is drafted into the South African army at the age of 19 and finds his every sensibility outraged by a system on the verge of collapse but yet in full force. This is a long-overdue account about the emotional and physical hardship faced by countless young men during South Africa's border struggle against communism.
