Man of La Mancha

Miguel de Cervantes, a poet, dramatist, and occasional actor from the sixteenth century, has been taken into custody by the Spanish Inquisition, along with his manservant. The Inquisition claims that they provided entertainment that was offensive to its members. Cervantes and his manservant are thrown into a vast dungeon, where the other inmates form a mob and stage a sham trial in an effort to steal or burn some of Cervantes' goods. Cervantes is frantic to protect a manuscript he is carrying, so he and the other inmates put on a theatrical performance of Don Quixote.
