Jacob

As told in Genesis, a young shepherd named Jacob (Matthew Modine) develops feelings for and eventually proposes marriage to Rachel (Lara Flynn Boyle), the daughter of his uncle Laban (Giancarlo Giannini). With no money to buy Rachel's hand, Jacob works as an indentured servant for his uncle for seven years to get her. Despite his best efforts, Laban manages to con him into a further seven years of labor. An iron willed mother is played by Irene Papas.
