At the Beginning of World War II, a German U-boat is sunk in Canada's Hudson Bay. Hoping to evade capture, a little band of soldiers headed by officer Lieutenant Hirth attempts to cross the border into the USA, which has not yet entered the war which can be impartial. On the way, the soldiers encounter brave men such as Philip, Johnnie, a leader of a Hutterite farming community, including Peter, a writer, a french canadian fur trapper Andy Brock, and also a soldier.
