The Rookie
Jim Morris never left it before a shoulder injury ended his pitching career twelve decades back. Presently a married-with-children high-school chemistry teacher and baseball coach in Texas, Jim's team can make a deal with him: if they win the district tournament, Jim will try outside with a major league company. The bet demonstrates incentive enough to the team, and so they go rendering it to mention to first time in their school's annals. Jim, driven to fulfill his end of this bargain, is not exactly laughed off the try out field--he gets onto the mound, at which he confounds the scouts (and himself) by anemic consecutive 98 mph fastballs, Goodenough for a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim got plenty of pitches to throw before he gets it but along with his dreams revived, there is no telling where he can proceed.
