Lt. Dave Robicheaux, a director in New Iberia, Louisiana, is hoping to join the murder of a local hooker to New Orleans mobster Julie (Baby Feet) Balboni, who's co-producer of a Civil War film. At precisely the same moment, after Elrod Sykes, the celebrity of the movie, reports finding still yet another corpse from the Atchafalaya Swamp near the movie place, Robicheaux starts still yet another investigation, believing the corpse to be the remains of a dark person that he watched being murdered 35 years before.
