Architecture of Infinity
How can structures that occupy defined, rigid areas of space make us feel transcendent? How can chapels become places of reflection? How can walls provide limitless freedom? Driven by strong childhood memories, director Christoph Schaub visits extraordinary churches, both ancient and futuristic, and discovers works of art that transport him to the heavens and all the way to the bottom of the sea. He tries to make sense of the world and decipher our spiritual experiences using the seemingly abstract concepts of light, time, rhythm, sound, and shape with the help of architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli, and lvaro Siza Vieira, artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Sergé "Jojo" Mayer. The excellent cinematography elevates this contemplative journey to a multi-sensory experience.
