American Friends
Francis Ashby, a senior Oxford don who is on vacation alone in the Alps, meets American Caroline and Elinor, the Irish-American girl she adopted many years ago, who are also on vacation. Ashby likes being with them, especially Elinor, and both women are interested in him. Back at Oxford, he is still surprised when they show up without warning. Women are not allowed on the grounds of the College, let alone in the rooms. In fact, the good Fellows look down on any relationship, no matter how innocent.
