Laura Brummels is hell-bent on avenging the death of a small child - a death she could have avoided but did not. It has imprisoned her in a prison of guilt as a result of her involvement with a political dictatorship that effectively corrupted her as a reporter. Laura is sentenced to Aquila, a jail where no one escapes and where an annual monsoon washes the prison, annihilating everyone. And she discovers her opportunity to atone for her sins: one of the infamous guards is the small boy's murderer. This is her opportunity to revenge the boy's death and absolve herself of her guilt. However, she is in for a surprise in the huge cell where she has been placed: another prisoner, Joseph, has survived the previous flood and has been attempting to flee Aquila before the new flood occurs. He's found an ingenious method for removing the stones from the prison ceiling, but he's not alone. To accomplish, he must persuade his new cell mate to forgo murder in favor of surviving and escaping alongside him.
