49 Up is the seventh video of a remarkable documentary series that began 42 years ago when the World in Action team at Granada Television in the United Kingdom was inspired by the Jesuit ideal After interviewing a diverse group of seven-year-old children from all around England and asking them about their lives and their goals for the future, the interviewer said, "Give me the child until he is seven and I will give you the man." Since then, Michael Apted, a researcher for the original film, has returned to interview the "children" every seven years, at ages14,21,28,35,42, and now at age49, with the most recent interview taking place at the age of 49. There are more life-changing decisions revealed, more shocking announcements are made, and more members of the original group participate than ever before, speaking out on a variety of subjects such as love, marriage, a successful professional life, social class, and prejudice, in this latest installment.
